Today was another good training day. For Louie anyway. Marie quickly dispelled any notion I got yesterday about her possibly catching on to targeting the toy being what earned her treats. Today she was rude, grabbing at my hand holding the toy and when I tried to correct her she simply left.
So, on to Louie. Today Louie picked up the toy every time. Quite often he'd drop it fairly quickly. But about 60% of the time he'd actually pick it up off the ground and about 40% of the time he'd raise his head up enough for me to take it from him without bending over. And I think I saw a glimmer of him realizing I wanted him to give it to me. Maybe......... He's smart though. If he drops it too quick and I say the word fetch, he knows there is no treat coming and that he hasn't done quite what I want and immediately focuses back on the toy. So, I think he is doing well though I'm very glad that right from the start he was inclined to use his mouth to play with the toy. It's made my job easier for training this trick.
